I chose to read this as I know so very little about Malta, and a friend is considering resettling there The book is well named asold churches and Catholicism are the background for each story The author writes about gray stone, gray cliffs, gray houses andthe stories all have a sadness grayness about them The feeling of place is very strong, but I missed characters of depth and interest.
