    1. When Bel moves to the seaside town of Slumpton with her mother she isn t happy She didn t want to leave her friends behind but worse of all her father hasn t come with them Bel doesn t like her new home, she finds the cold, grey and run down town depressing and she is incredibly lonely That is until she meets Luka and follows him to the old fairground But is Luka really all he seems and what caused the mysterious disappearance of his mother As they begin to investigate they are drawn into a dark [...]

    2. 4.5 5booksforcompanyDark Ride is only a little book, at just under 200 pages l thought this book would be a nice little quick average read Dark Ride is actually so much than that Bel is a character who l straight away liked from the first few lines Her humour is something which l really enjoyed in this book and it mixed well with other parts of the book, for example it was nice to have the humour amongst the tension The humour also made this book feel very real and l never doubted anything in t [...]

    3. Guest Review by BethI found the idea of this novel really intriguing and was really glad to give it a go Bel and her mother seem less than happy in the uninspiringly named seaside town of Slumpton that has become their new home Bel misses her dad, misses her friends and doesn t understand why they have to be in Slumpton anyway In time, she begins to explore the area including the disused fairground and eventually meets Luka Bel and Luka s adventures if they can be called that lead them to sinist [...]

    5. Review can be found at the reading pileThe character of Bel is the one we follow throughout the novel as she and her mother move to a new town, one she isn t that fond of, she misses her old home and her dad She stumbles upon a fairground after meeting a boy previously at the bus stop who leaves her an admit one ticket. After finding this fairground, she finds a boy, Luka with a mysterious secret so secret he doesn t even know about I m actually really proud of myself for figuring it out before i [...]

    6. I really enjoyed this book I don t know why but I wasn t expecting much from it, but I got so much out of it that I thought.Bel is a great typical teenage girl character, she isn t happy with being uprooted to a new seaside town Slumptond lets face it, it doesn t sound great and of course she likes a boy.Luka is said boy, he is a mysterious character who is very troubled and Bel wants to help him, but by helping him she finds herself in some dangerous situations.I also really enjoyed all the fa [...]

    7. I really liked this one Caroline Green managed to capture my attention from the first chapter it s fun, has great characters and an intriguing mystery.Bel is great she s funny and I liked how much she wanted to help Luka I guessed what was going on with him but I loved how the mystery unfolded, and I thought the two had great chemistry There was also some really great atmosphere in the book and there were a couple of scene where the tension truly makes this one gripping reading.I also really lik [...]

    8. Well, to be fair, this book surpassed my expectations I expected a generic supernatural romance and got a not as generic as i would have thought supernatural romance It was an enjoyable read, and I might revisit it at some point, but if you re looking for a deep, complicated story arch with lots of character development, I suggest you look elsewhere The plot was no predictable per se, but not far into the second half, I had kinda figured out what the big reveal would be.So yeah, enjoyable and we [...]

    9. I really enjoyed this story. The descriptions of a seaside town in winter are wonderful Bel and Luka s romance is very sweet or, perhaps accurately, bitter sweet, but fortunately imo not over wrought. The other plot lines revolving around Bel s parents and the marina project kept things moving along at a good pace.I d say it s ideally suited for younger teens, but most definitely not confined to that age range.

    10. Winner of the Waverton Good Read Children s Award I thoroughly enjoyed this book Sometimes children s books are better than the adult ones, and I enjoyed this than the majority of the adult novels in the WGRA this year It deals with lots of different issues, doesn t have too happy an ending but also not too miserable either Would definitely recommend it

    11. I really liked this YA book with its quirky heroine, who is trying to come to terms with living in a tiny seaside resort and having to leave behind her former life and all her friends in London Everything has changed for her, but meeting a strange boy in a deserted fairground helps her to adjust in ways she d never expected I m hoping this is the first in a series

    12. This was a quick, enjoyable read The book had an air of mystery about it and I found it intriguing I didn t have the highest of expectations when I started it as I was stumped at what to read next and just chose the first thing I found I was pleased to find that I liked it.

    13. It was romance than mystery the plot didn t have much mystery to it there wasn t much mystery solving, it was of a character builder romance story.

    14. Charming story about a young girl who moves to a seaside town and finds the local fairground may hold some dark secrets Aimed at YA young audience, well written, contemporary and believable.
