    1. This story follows one woman s escape from virtual servitude to the ranks of the suffragettes and finally to her ultimate dream She learns and experiences a great deal in a relatively short period of time Included are a healing, a beautiful brief love affair, and a rather traditional, but charming happy ending I could not put this book down I was simply mesmerized.Elizabeth, who started out as Lizzie, must leave her dominating and brutalizing preacher man father This remarkable escape happens in [...]

    2. The description made Votes for Vixens sound like it would be similar to the classic The Bostonians by Henry James I hoped that the characters and their lesbian relationship might be engaging, and that the book might be overtly feminist Tara met all my expectations I enjoyed reading Votes for Vixens far than The Bostonians.I also found it to be an accurate reflection of the time period, its politics and its s Although this is a novel that deals with a lesbian relationship and there is some ero [...]

    3. hazelthewitch 2013I hadn t read any books by this author when I spotted Votes for Vixens But I was instantly intrigued because of the word vixens in the title, and because of the cover The synopsis sounded great as well.So I bought an e copy for my Kindle and started reading immediately And I wasn t disappointed Even though this book is quite short, Chevrestt managed to flesh out most of the characters well, which is impressive I also like how the various emotions and things like hopelessness, f [...]

    4. 5. I wasn t sure what to expect when I started this novella I knew it was a subject I m interested in women s suffrage and a love story between two young women caught up in the movement I knew there would be sex But from the opening scene, it went places I didn t expect This story doesn t follow a predictable path and that is one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much, despite some historical anomalies that distracted me For the record, the important aspects of the story the women s fight for the vote [...]

    6. It s the start of the Roaring 20 s and the sins of the father have pushed Lizzie to the brink After years of physical and mental abuse heaped on her by her preacher father, and with no end in sight after he denies her hand in marriage to the one boy she thinks could save her, Lizzie runs towards the freedom of the big city The beginning of her journey is heartbreaking though as she again learns that looks can be deceiving Her naivet will get her killed if she doesn t smarten up soon and these ea [...]

    8. In a compelling tale about the votes for women movement in 1919 we meet Elizabeth berated, belittled and beaten by her abusive and wholly un Christian preacher father, she sets out one night to get away and join the movement Fortunately, despite a harrowing ride that depicts the dangers of riding in cars with boys, Elizabeth makes her way to New York and upon alighting from the train is instantly attracted to and noticed by Margaret From nowhere to stay and no friends, Elizabeth is taken under M [...]

    10. Votes for Vixens sounded like it d be just my cup of tea when I first saw it I was quite surprised that it was far different than what I was expecting That s not a bad thing though I quite enjoyed the story, far than I thought I would when I started reading.Set in 1919, Lizzie is a preacher s daughter who s father is quite controlling and downright abusive When she finds out that he denied her hand to the town s most eligible bachelor, she snaps She escapes her father, leaves home and decides t [...]

    11. I was going into this book thinking there was going to be a lot of f f relations with some history thrown in When in actuality it was the other way around I enjoyed this book tremendously This book takes on a journey through the National Woman s Party of 1919 when they were fighting for women s rights to vote You meet Elizabeth Lizzie Johnson who is from a small town in Kansas She is silently rebelling against her father by reading articles about the fights women are putting up against the gover [...]

    14. I have read several different books by Ms Chevrestt as well as some of her work as Sonia Hightower I am a definite fan of her writing, though I must say that Votes for Vixens is definitely my favorite This story is amazing from the start and will leave you wanting I highly recommend it.

    15. It was an exciting and moving account of a suppressed young woman standing up for herself against the patriarchal cultures and exploring her own sexuality and own desires The writing style was a bit too simple for me sometimes, but otherwise, it was a good read.
