    1. I bumped this up my to read list after really enjoying Chmakova s contribution to Flight, Vol 5.Based on the description I was expecting it be a bit different That expectation continued through the first few pages, where three girls leaving school late after club activities come within moments of discovering that a secret supernatural school uses their campus at night night starts at 6 pm, apparently, which does seem to be cutting a bit close But in fact, those girls are irrelevant you ll never [...]

    2. The book jumps right into the story which takes some time to figure out exactly what is going on I highly recommend reading the summary on the back first otherwise you may not completely understand the story until you do This high school takes on a completely new set of students and staff each evening where teens of the night take their lessons The story focuses on two sisters, one much older who is a teacher at the school and her younger sister, Alex, a Weirn, a certain type of witch who for so [...]

    3. I started to read this, then just skimmed till the end about halfway I think there are some good concepts in here, but this book set up nothing to keep me interested Ashley

    4. All in all I think this is a decent start in terms of plot, pacing and writing It is interesting and I plan to read the second volume. It is not the most original concept, no doubt about that, but the author makes it work and I will see what these special witch species is about and how the school here works. You notice that this is not a Japanese manga due to the reading style from left to right and the bigger color scale of the characters Actually it was odd that the first 5 pages of chapter 2 ar [...]

    5. So, where do Witches, Demons, Vampires and the like go when their kids School, of course Nightschool Nightschool takes place in regular schools once the daytime students have all gone home, that s when the Nightschool takes over the building, portals open, spells are cast, fights break out among the students Basically, the same as school for mortals DThe main character is Alex Treveney, she s a type of witch called a Weirn She has a sister who s one of the Night Guardians for Nightschool, keepin [...]

    6. Uhm I didn t quite like this one I mean, I liked the art makova knows her way around the page Unfortunately, the action scenes were a bit confused And also the plot There was something missing in it It was like I was introduced into a world without all the necessary elements to understand it Sometimes people would appear out of thin air and I didn t know where they came from or what was their role in the whole story.Alex is a homeschooled witch who can t go to school for a mysterious reason Her [...]

    7. I was not sure what to expect when reading this, but then realized it was a graphic novel I enjoyed that aspect as it was a quick read, but I thought the story line was a little difficult to follow The beginning made sense, but half way through, I started to not follow the day and night shift I think overall it was an okay book, but I do not have any desire to continue reading.

    8. At last A 5 comic for this year The drawings were A mazing and the characters so well presented I m very intrigued by the story and I must say I can t wait to read the others.

    9. This is a very interesting manga Read from left to right it was a bit hard for me to get used to at first but once I did, I saw that the story was very well structured While there are very interesting characters, somethings are left unexplained in the story I am unsure if this is a strategy and will all be explained at the end, but it does not seem so and has left me confused at some moments The art is well done and the few pages of color are beautiful The story could be a bit structured and st [...]

    10. On the series on the whole it s really good They have a bit of everything supernatural with plenty of their own original plot They even use the stale and tiered supernatural school trope to great effect I would differently recommend these four books to any one looking for a well done short series.

    11. I really liked this book with the art styles and how the characters were given magic I really liked the main character Alex who is a siren or in this case a weirn She had a curse put on her to where she cant express love or that thing or person will disappear After something really bad happens she ended up having to go to a night school to try to solve a problem I would totaly recamind this to someone.

    12. Review can also be found here.Rating 4.5 starsNightschool The Weirn Books isn t my first series from Russian comic creator Svetlana Chmakova and I find it delightful that the first volume to this one is all that I ve hoped for and .As a long time manga reader, I found this comic volume perfectly paced everything happened in one night The transitions from one point of view to another was smooth, and despite some character speech inconsistencies, the script was both lean, sufficient and entertaini [...]

    13. I found the first and second volumes of this series at a used bookstore and snatched them up Although I never fell in love with Chmakova s Dramacon the way some others did, I liked it well enough I enjoy fantasy and was interested in seeing how well she d handle a switch to a new genre.Although I didn t hate this volume, I was a bit disappointed in it There was just too much going on, too many characters being introduced I m going to guess that Alex is the series main character, since she s on t [...]

    14. This review is from my blog, Studies in Storytelling To see the complete version, please visit studiesinstorytellingNightschool is an American published manga by Russian Canadian mangaka Svetlana Chmakova, most famous for Dramacon.A normal school by day, The Nightschool teaches vampires, weirns, mermaids, etc The coarse, homeschooled Alex Treveney tries to track down her sister, Sarah, a teacher at the Nightschool She also has a slight tendency to black out and leave slow, brutal death in her wa [...]

    15. Before I delve into the series as a whole, I have a few things to say about the series as a whole Overall, I enjoyed the series as a whole except the ending, but on that on the volume 4 review , and would recommend it at least as a light read. The most positive thing I will say right off the bat though is that the reader is going to have to read the entire series twice to understand everything that happened even though it ll make sense the first time through , and that s always a positive for me [...]

    16. Review for the entire series on my blog The Otaku Librarian.Alex is a home schooled Weirn, but when her sister goes missing, she enrolls in the Nightschool to find out what has happened It s just her and her Astral against whatever malevolent spirits are out to destroy the world.I read the first volume a while back, and didn t really enjoy it that much But then I picked up the entire collection 1 4 , not realizing that it was the entire set, and read it all It was a fun and interesting world tha [...]

    18. I d like to start off with the fact that I m not an avid fan of manga While I do enjoy it my taste can be finicky and hard to feed in the otaku market of today catering to fetish books I was lucky enough to stumble on this series in my local library and take home the first volume By page one I was hooked since I m a fan of the spooky school trope, and by page fifteen or so I felt comfortable in the world and had a basic grasp on the nightschool rules Like some of my favorites this volume is a lo [...]

    19. There are things that go bump in the night when the day sleeps From vampires to demons, all exist without human knowledge Like students, these paranormal beings can also go to school and earn their own diplomas Unlike regular schooling, their education is far from normal.Alex is a young weirn witch who has been home schooled for her education There are magic and mysteries lurking within the Nightschool, at which her older sister, Sarah, works at and for some reason, there is a mysterious force t [...]

    20. School Library Journal September 1, 2009 Gr 9 Up The first installment in this series follows sisters Sarah and Alex and the vampires, werewolves, and weirns who attend PS 13W as night students Sarah s new job as Night Keeper has her busy learning the ins and outs of the school and its students and homeschooling Alex, who possesses special talents as a weirn While Sarah is at work, Alex sneaks out with her astral companion to practice spells and encounters a group of supernatural creatures who c [...]

    21. Hmm I wanted to like this Neat idea, kids with powers, tensions between two factions that will obviously need to unite against a sinister and mysterious third, and lots of ethnic diversity And all by a woman creator, too But it failed hard in a few key places 1 There is only one cool character The rest feel insubstantial We re given tantalizing peeks at cool powers and cool backgrounds, but none of them, not even the character from the cover of the book, are fleshed out enough to care about Eve [...]

    22. I have to admit that this is the first Manga I ve ever read, although I m an emerging fan of the graphic novel format The artwork varies with the characters emotions from mysterious and flirtatious, to outraged and scary The colour panels at the outset of Chapter 2 when our main character, the young Weirn and her pet Astral, are introduced are rich and ethereal in their hues of blue The other section that stands out is the fight sequence when The Hunters take on The Rippers is about 6 pages long [...]

    24. Sarah Trevaney is the Night Keeper at the Night School a school for werewolves, vampires and witches She is adored by the students, and annoys her counterpart, the Day Keeper, who watches the school during the daylight hours She has a sister, Alex, who is a weirn a particular kind of witch, with an astral a sort of external part of her self Alex is teaching herself, though the reader isn t quite sure why something happened, and Alex doesn t want to go to the Night School.Enter either the protago [...]
