    About "Richard Schiver"

    1. Richard Schiver

Richard is the author of five novels, two novellas, and a collection of short stories with much on the way His short work has appeared in a diverse range of publications from Dark Moon Digest to The Backbone Mountain Review His most recent work includes All Roads Lead To Terror and The Reaping, books one and two in his post apocalyptic coming of age series, The Dreadland Chronicles.Unlike other writers who knew they wanted to write the moment they became self aware, Richard s path to taking up the pen followed a leisurely route As a child he wanted to be a fighter pilot, later he thought it would be neat to be a rock star Unfortunately, as an introvert, he was not suited for the stage Once he gave up the guitar, much to the relief of his parents, he turned his attention to making movies Armed with an 8mm movie camera, several rolls of aluminum foil liberated from the kitchen, and the spare bed sheets, he filmed his first masterpiece The story was about a space ship crash landing in the woods behind his house His sister starred as the damsel in distress while his little brother, wrapped like a mummy in the spare bed sheets, chased her through the woods His career as a famous director ended before it even got off the ground when on opening night his mother recognized the missing bed sheets and aluminum foil resulting in his grounding for the remainder of that summer.A voracious reader, he believes writing is the most intimate form of communication possible The reader permits the writer access to their mind, and the readers reality dissolves as they focus on the narrative of the tale being spun. His love of the macabre was sparked at an early age when he would sit on his grandmother s porch listening to her tell ghost stories During the summer he and his cousins would sleep in his grandmother s back yard, within sight of the abandoned haunted house next door, and spend the night scaring one another with gruesome tales of shadowy creatures that went bump in the night.During his life he has played a series of roles, husband, father, son, and lover, but his favorite by far is grandfather He and his wife of twenty plus years have raised four children, and helped raise eight grandchildren They provide a secure home to a yellow lab named Max and a cat who will answer to either Flame or Furball His loving wife, Dena has experienced first hand the exasperation of living with a writer whose mind has a tendency to wander at the most inappropriate times Yet she manages to keep his feet firmly planted on terra firma Richard can be found online at Facebook facebook RichardSchiver Follow Richard on Twitter RichardSchiverBookbub bookbub authors richaWritten in Blood is Richard s personal blog where he shares his thoughts on writing, and whatever else might strike his fancy richardschiverHe can be contacted directly at rschiver gmail and would be delighted to hear from you.Sign up to be notified of new releases when they become available He promises to never share your contact info, nor will he swamp your inbox with unnecessary crap eepurl 2bYSf

    1. I m pretty sure that all call centers are some form of hell I mean, every time I get a telemarketing call, I politely listen to their pitch I even ask questions Like, Oh really And how long is this offer available No way You ve got to be kidding me Then, after they are sure the sale is imminent, I say Just kidding, man Go fuck yourself and abruptly hang up on em Good times, man. This book is about a call center that s surrounded by a wicked snow storm How the fuck all the characters in this book [...]

    2. This book was a very chilling book for me I loved it I think this was a great book to read at night, with the lights out, right before bed, but only if you want to be scared I enjoyed it every much This book was given to me from the author in exchange for an honest review

    3. I received this book as part of GoodReads First Reads giveaway. In a nutshell, this is the story of how an IT call center in Appalachia was attacked by an ancient Russian snow god one thing I love about writing reviews for sci fi, fantasy and horror is one sentence summaries In a larger nutshell, the beginning of the story has the call center operating with a skeleton staff due to a freak spring snow storm that quickly stops operating due to a power outage Early on, an employee on a smoke break i [...]

    4. White Walker seems to successfully combine paranormal, time travel, urban legend, and dead teenager movies in pretty convincing fashion If you are a sucker for folk tales like the Legend of Sleepy Hollow but also like general fiction romantic contemporary tales this little coming of age while everyone your age is dying around you story might just be your cup of tea I was thoroughly entertained as the book reveals just enough to keep you guessing all along the way With great suspense and a satisf [...]

    5. I requested this book from because I am a Game Of Thrones fan Naturally I saw white walkers and hoped for a mild spin off of the series, that is not what it was, however I am still satisfied with the read.White Walker is set in a business building where in the midst s of a raging storm, a few employees who missed the no work call, are working They ignore the battering cry of the wind against the building, how it eerily sounds like children crying After a few close encounters with the man in the [...]

    6. 3.5 Fiery Hearts I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review Beware the snow storm as it carries with it darkness and death The White One wants what is owed him and he ll go through any and every one who gets in the way during the process.Unlike Richard s previous books we ve read this one at least has survivors But the only way to find out who is to read it And no, you cannot read it with your eyes covered Trust me, I tried it There are so many characters that I d [...]

    7. ok I got this book for free in an exchange for an honest review, and it was really good and creepy. The story of the book is about a few employees who missed the no work call, and came to work and got stuck in the building due to a raging snow storm. This book is so creepy it keeps you on the edge The description of the storm is so real you feel yourself living in a blizzard What I like about the book is that the story starts from the first page , I did not have to wait a few chapters for the stor [...]

    8. I won this book in a giveaway Although lacking in character interactions, this story wasn t too bad Something hunts the workers of a call center during a bad winter storm Can the workers find out what s hunting them, and how to avoid becoming the next victim before its too late Will any of them survive the storm, especially since the building is crumbling around them

    9. Mr Schiver is one of the best authors around I ve been reading his books for about 2 years now and I m always impressed This story had my stomach all knotted up and the snowstorm in the book didn t help matters I also enjoyed the story within the story Yep, I d recommend this book and author.

    10. I was allowed to read an advance copy of this book and then realized that I had never posted a review I feel like a dork Okay, here is the deal, especially after the winter that people out east had, this book resonates with a sort of schticky late night movie feel That is not to say that it does not hold the reader with some fun tension, but it has an over the top idea that forces you to sort of suspend reality and just come along for the ride.Is it perfect No But what is There is an evil thing [...]
