    1. Trip of a Lifetime is the fourth novel by British born Australian author, Liz Byrski When hard working State Government backbencher Heather Delaney is shot on the steps of her Newcastle office, she assumes life will get back to normal when her wound heals and the culprit is found But while the physical healing duly occurs, the ramifications of this traumatic event continue to be felt by Heather, her family and her associates Her brother Adam, feeling guilty that he has, once again, failed to pro [...]

    2. I borrowed this from the library s borrowbox and it expired after 3 weeks I hadn t finished I didn t bother to renew That sort of says it all Really boring characters and plot I think the male romantic character was creepy even once introduced He might have found out he was the baddie if I kept reading Or the assistant Or someone Don t care.

    3. Ok book I powered through the ending bc I wanted it done I didn t really care about some of the people esp Ellis by the end.

    4. When parliamentarian Heather Delaney is shot in the shoulder outside her office, her life will change forever Struggling to return to work, she is haunted by questions about the shooting Was it personal or political Who could hate her enough to want to kill her and will they try again We later discover in the novel, that the bullet was intended for her electoral officer, Shaun who was walking out of the building at that exact same moment His past girlfriend had been Charlene who had dabbled in d [...]

    5. TRIP OF A LIFETIMEAustralian author Liz Byrski s novel Trip of a Lifetime is not, despite its title, a beach read about a romantic holiday In fact, the trip of the title is the emotional journey endured by Newcastle based Member of Parliament Heather Delaney following a shocking and violent attack.Being a Bryski novel, though, the journey is not Heather s alone making it with her, and dealing with their own issues, are her brother Adam, his wife Jill, a close and caring Aunt named Barbara and he [...]

    6. When a female politician is shot as she leaves her workplace, her life and the lives of the people closest to her are blown apart Heather Delaney survives the shooting but it is the repercussions of the crime that is the real story behind Liz Byrski s fourth novel Trip of a Lifetime. The tension builds when the crime is not solved Heather struggles to return to work not knowing if she is safe and why she was targeted Her ability to hold it together fails on many occasions Her political assistant [...]

    7. Dull, disappointing, the characters were both described in too much detail and yet weren t fleshed out I didn t care what happened to any of them and I really didn t need to know that someone s ex and married a man called such and such, and moved to this place, for so many years, and then come back or not, I might have been asleep at that point d then was never mentioned again You can almost hear her saying Oh, we haven t go a hippy type yet let me knock one up quickly I shall give her searching [...]

    8. The story begins when Heather, a prominent local politician is shot outside her local office and like a lot of momentous events in our lives you can choose to be a victim or a survivor Byrski takes us on Heather s journey after the shooting and we come to know and love and hate some of Heather s family and friends and their complicated lives This was a long book, but I absolutely loved listening to the audio version of this book I couldnt wait to get in the car each day to from work and see what [...]

    9. Unfortunately the heading didn t reflect the story line, but that s not a big issue At times the story line felt drawn out and I found myself skipping large chunks of text to find the point The characters were mostly interesting but very predictable The author however has a beautiful way of interweaving different stories together but maybe at times there were a few too many moving parts.

    10. I really enjoy Liz Byrski s books and this one was no exception what I particularly like is that her characters are not young women but women about my age, facing many of the typcial things women of my age face I can really relate to the characters while at the same time know that it is finctiion and so also enjoy it at the level of simply a good read

    11. It s always good to read a book set in Australia, by an Australian, with Australian locations and language. The conversations didn t have quite a natural tone and it was hard to believe that Heather could be so in love with Ellis Optimistic.

    12. A pleasant enough book, a book for on holidays when you don t have to think to much , as there wasn t a lot to hold your interest and the ending as inevitable Had the same theme running through at other of her books No way as good as The Gang of Four.

    13. I didn t enjoy this book as much as the other books by Byrski that I have read It seemed to jump from one thing to another and meander in between The book title I found misleading as I was expecting a book about an overseas trip.

    14. It was alright, it kind of meandered along I didn t love any of the characters particularly, there were a couple of insightful paragraphs on relationships It was however an easy read, and it was nice to read a modern book set in Australia.

    15. An ok read but not as enjoyable as her previous books The story was a bit dull and the characters not that interesting.

    16. This was an o.k book Not riveting and not exactly plot driven but interesting in it s insights regarding ladies of a certain age Too a while to get going.

    17. The story was good but wasn t as riveting as Gang of Four which I loved Heather is a member of parliament who experiences a shooting putting all sorts of relationships and people at stake.

    18. This was my first Liz Byrski book, and I wasn t disappointed I found the characters to be well drawn and realistic The story kept me engaged right up until the satisfying conclusion.

    19. Took a while to get into it.Just a bit too messagy for me.I get all the relationship problems, but it became a bit tiresome.Reasonable read
