I agree that most of the common sense classroom management techniques reviewed in this book are effective As is true of a lot of these types of books, the strategies and anecdotal examples are geared towards elementary school students Some of the ideas are ludicrous when applied to high school students Fun Fridays and PAT are a misuse of class time on the secondary level and most of the real life situations that Mackenzie uses are with smaller children.

This 300 page book could easily have been 50 pages without lacking any of its message or examples Mackenzie repeats his common sense based discipline strategy ad nauseum, which I suppose could be helpful for some of the denser teachers out there By no means am I presupposing that classroom management is easy I just found his advice to be largely intuitive Ask me in a week if his theory works in practice.
