    1. It s really hard for me to write a review about this book I m not quite sure how I feel about it I did enjoy reading it, I finished it in one afternoon I found myself identifying with the main character a lot I liked the story The writing style was part of the reason for my reduction No quotation marks and a lot of So I was like, and then she was like, and then I go Kind of annoying after awhile Plus the sequence of events was annoying One minute he would be talking about something, and then BAM [...]

    3. I only made it about halfway through this one before giving up Perhaps the fact that it was advertised as being like Catcher in the Rye should have clued me in, because I hated that book This one as far as I read it was acres of angsty, irritating teen inner monologue, and when I found my attention drifting every paragraph or so, I just gave up The main character wasn t very likeable, I had no idea where the story was going if anywhere , and I just didn t really care I did glance at the last few [...]

    4. boring this book should have totally been in the teen section of the library rather than LGBT fictioning out stories get so tired the only think that kept me reading was the well done cover art and my obsessive anglo philia it was a good peek into a part of working middle class London life , but other than that, avoid this book.

    5. The prose gave me a migraine It was like reading a disorganized essay written by someone only partially literate.

    6. to be read in a way, like, completely, like, stereotypical blonde Like, omg I like, soo can t believe how the writer, like, wrote this book It s like, totally I, like, cannot believe this book actually, like got published end stereotypical whatever here I ve honestly never picked up a book where there was little to no punctuation whatsoever Periods and commas, that s it It was almost impossible to decipher when something someone was saying began and ended You know the types of people who talk li [...]

    7. I did not like this book The characters were really unlikable, ridiculously immature and the language pretty annoying I m a youth worker and I really do not agree with such a negative and weird view of young people or is there something about British teens I do not get All this complete lack of empathy depth and careless attitude about drugs, sex and everything This reminded me of the British teen shows like Skins but with no feel good vibe at all I guess the main character author warned in the [...]

    9. This was an interesting read The story wasn t half bad, but the main character was kind of a douche, and he didn t really care Any attempt to show any actual emotion seemed fake, so I couldn t really connect with him Style of writing was really cool just wish I d been able make of an emotional connection.

    10. Not sure where to place this one The language is too coarse to be aimed at a teenage audience It s too whiny teenager to be an adult book It s certainly not as incredibly funny as some people seem to think 70 pages in, I couldn t bear it any longer.

    11. Am I the only person who HATED this book I read about half of it, and couldn t stand it any It left me depressed beyond belief, and I don t know why other people think it s so amazing.

    12. Review to be posted on two editions on this, as I ve read both a paperback and a hardcover copy of this bookThis book was one of the first LGBTQ slice of life books that I read when I was thirteen I found this on a list of LGBTQ literature that everyone should read Honestly I didn t know what to expect from it I thought the cover was pretty cool and I found it in my library immediately, but it took me a while to come around and give this a read I wasn t sure about whether I wanted to read it or [...]

    15. It s like, a really really bad and like, phony imitation of like, Catcher in the Rye, like. The differences being Davis is not a great writer and Jaz is not a nice soulful kid he s snotty and self absorbed , and apparently neither the writer nor the character has been through any experience nearly as serious as Salinger or Holden Caulfield, nor thought as deeply about life So Jaz comes across as a bratty, insensitive teenager who wants to get laid and doesn t care who he hurts to do so He doesn t [...]

    16. I wouldnt call this the The Catcher in the Rye of my generation But it is pretty close Story is about a kid Jarold aka Jaz figuring himself out, not just his sexuality he has that established but about life He has parents that he loves and respects very much, but he just feel like a total screw up in their eyes, especially compared to his perfect sister He looks at his grandma who is waiting to die, and he becomes and comfortable with death, but not in a suicidal way He has one very good frien [...]

    18. I don t normally write reviews, however I felt like this one called for it While I am probably not at the best age to pick this up given that it is quite juvenile, I did want to see what it was about It is also short and an easy read The writing in it is pretty terrible and I found myself OFTEN disliking the main character Jaz I tried to go back to my 16 year old self and try to understand his point of view, but it was difficult because he was not very likable to me I did find about 3 4 chapters [...]

    19. It s written in a writing style you re either going to be able to deal with or hate I found it readable by thinking of it as it really was a 16 year old boy writing about his confusing and adventurous life It was a good story, I liked the LGBT thing with it I picked this up for a couple of pounds at my local bookshop and since it was a sort of LGBT book i had to give it a shot This was actually the first physical book I had read which had a gay teen as the main chracter It s incredibly hard to f [...]

    20. Seventeen year old Jaz has just been outed to his dysfunctional parents, has a crush on an older man, and keeps running into his old geography teacher at the one gay bar in town that doesn t check ID Jaz s family ends up in therapy, he runs away from home with his best friend Al short for Alice and I think I must be getting old, because by the end of it, I was exhausted from all the drama I m not sure where I finally landed on the writing style No punctuation, lots of slang and stream of conscio [...]

    21. This is Davis first book and it s actually well done than I had anticipated The language can be tiresome seeing as it s written in the colloquial language of a seventeen year old living in England, but, at the same time, it really adds to the story It creates this form of stream of conscious since everything is told from one character s perspective and thoughts and dialogue are mixed and quotation marks don t exist The story would resonate for anyone who struggled with being gay, especially if [...]

    22. This writing style will definitely make the average person twitch, but the thing about it is that it did an incredibly efficient job at helping me feel like I was inside the brain of a 16 year old boy which was the point I picked up this book quite at random literally thumbing through books at the library , so I had zero expectations, so take my review with a grain of salt It was a great read and really sucked me in I could relate to the character and felt like I was a kid again, struggling with [...]

    23. A simple plain read The narration of story is like writing a diary of what had happened to me today A coming out of story book I think its missed the mark, rather it s just a story of what is going in a teen lives like any other teens with exception of being queer and sassy mouth Family problem, teenager going through rebellious period, drugs, sex and other issues that every humankind will experience albeit sooner or later in their point of life A better take on this issues is what this book nee [...]

    24. Like two stars say it was ok I started out really hating the book The writing style was horrendous, the content was cringe worthy and superficial, and none of the characters was likeable in any way, worst of all the narrator, which made everything he said kind of unbelievable It all seemed so far from reality Plus my copy from the library smelled absolutely disgusting.Towards the middle it picked up a bit though and I even laughed a few times, so I m glad that it at least wasn t a complete waste [...]

    25. I wanted to badly enjoy this book but, I could not It felt disjointed and all over the place, especially mid way of the story Some parts had me laughing but so how ridiculous it was, not sure if that was truly the intentions or notI did not find any of the characters even likable, frankly, I felt like I was listening to someone ramble about their week rather than reading a story Most of the time I felt bore with the book but just wanted to finish it to get it out of the way.

    27. It s a gay coming of age story set in U.K and the narrator is a likeable wise ass with a disfunctional family It s a quick, enjoyable read, but it s not all that memorable, and the vernacular prose can get a little grating it s in the first person, and the narrator tends to use the word like like a whole lot But it was fun A nice palate cleanser after On Beauty.

    28. This book was about a gay male who ran away from home He met a man who was older than him but the older man couldn t accept the boy s age It was kind of like Catcher in the Rye because the protagonist thought really negatively about his life He also had a little sister and a family who didn t accept his orientation in the beginning.

    29. This was hilarious I know there s a lot of objections about the disjointed writing style and the angsty, emotional self centred ness of Jaz, but that just made it funny, and realistic Not a serious read, but still one you ll remember after putting down, and to make you look at life in a light hearted way for a while.
