    2. Every now and again, I ll pick up a book that is so good it causes me to completely neglect everything else in my life until I am done reading it This was one of those books sorry to my family Susan Barr Toman tells a wonderfully funny and touching story about Lucy, an almost 30yr old who is forced to finally come of age after her mother s unfortunate death I honestly did not want the book to end Susan does an amazing job developing Lucy s character to the point where you feel she is part of you [...]

    3. 3.5 4 StarsThe book begins with Lucy, a quiet, unassuming caregiver, age 30, who is coerced into mercy killing her sour, domineering mother, a woman in the final stages of lung cancer The novel follows Lucy in the months after her mother s death as she tries to make a life for herself She is surrounded by several strong characters, all of whom are eager to provide advice and basically tell her what to do with her life This is a very good story and the author is an excellent writer Hard to believ [...]

    4. This book resonates with me in several ways While we follow the lead character on her journey from child to adult at a critical time in her life, we are introduced to the most endearing and unique characters, one of which is my favorite neighborhood South Philly The author is a native of Philly, and only a native could bring out these most endearing aspects of our scrappy, hard knock life town Definately a recommended read.

    5. so far i am facinated by Lucy What other secrets is she keeping i enjoy the portrait of this character she is so cowed by her overbearing mother it is hard to feel i know her it reflects her own inner life or lack of one

    6. The main character Lucy is endearing and funny You ll root for her through the whole book The plot is full of twists and surprises, making it hard to put the book down And the rendering of 1990 s South Philly is vivid and recognizable, full of great details such as Lucy s nosy older neighbors.

    7. I enjoyed this little book It s a sweet and realistic story about a woman who finally gets to live her own life.
