    About "Brooke McKinley"

    1. Brooke McKinley

Brooke McKinley has always been practical So after college she continued on to law school instead of pursuing her lifelong dream of writing novels She didn t stop writing but confined it to scribbles on the edges of yellow legal pads and hurried paragraphs during late night coffee breaks After ten interesting and challenging years as a criminal defense attorney, Brooke left the practice of law to try something new She now divides her time between corralling her children and giving voice to the endless characters in her head And she has decided that practicality is vastly overrated.E mail Brooke at brookemckinley earthlink.

    1. I can t believe I m DNFing this one at 60% This has been on my to read list forever I just didn t connect with the characters This book has a 4.41 rating with my friends That is a crazy high rating from a group of very discerning people yes I m talking about you, friends Perhaps take my review with a grain of salt then I am one of the few that didn t love this book.My issues with this one started pretty much right out the gate For a guy who is used to working with some pretty shady people and ha [...]

    2. I actually read this book in 2012 I remembered next to nothing about it Old lady brain syndrome, which is great for re reads It was in the handful of my first M M romances I bought it from so it saved my old bookmarks I bookmarked all the sex the first time I read it Who does that Apparently, 2012 Gigi does. What can be said about Shades of Gray that hasn t been said before That this story is riveting and edge of your seat worthy That the romance is magical and swoon worthy That the sexual tensio [...]

    3. 4.5 starsSo close to perfect for a book in this genre This had it all two very real, complex MCs, a tight plot, nuanced writing, action, fantastic chemistry, and serious sizzle.I had to keep setting it down, because this was such an emotional ride Yes, I cried, and I m utterly in love with Danny. Why is this McKinley s only book This one is a must read.

    4. 4.75 Black White Stars It s always our mistakes, the things we aren t proud of, that are the first ones to stand up, ready to be counted Where do I even begin to explain how much I loved this book Let me start off by saying that I cannot believe this is Brooke McKinley s debut book This is one of those stories that page by page creeps up on you, digs its claws into your heart and simply doesn t let go until the last word Danny Butler is on the wrong side of the law He works as a drug runner for [...]

    5. So after my fifth read I felt I should write a review that does this book or how much I FRIGGIN LOVE IT justice To start I ll say, that yes this book is not perfect, there are things that are far fetched, some are unlikely for the premise of the book, but I don t care I LOVE IT I come back to it time after time, because Danny and Miller are just such special characters to me This book was an early M M read, and it has not lost its charm one bit It can still make me smile, cry and curl my toes an [...]

    6. Loved this one It was THE perfect mix of romance and suspense The build upe sexual tensione sexual chemistry It was perfect It was believable, it was real.I felt it The suspense left me intrigued, kept me guessing I wanted I didn t want it to end.

    7. 3.5 stars I ve been stuck in 3.5 star ville lately Man, this book had the makings to be great 2 hot characters, opposites attract, closeted g man, danger, hot man lovin , tenderness so, so close Let me just say what I did really, really love about this book So often in the M M books I read, the 2 MC s are so selfish in their love for each other You rarely see that truly beautiful I love you enough to sacrifice for you Protection also a great example But, I loved this in Danny and Miller They fou [...]

    8. In chess it s calledOkay, this one is simply EPIC And it makes me angry because the author didn t write books It s a SHAME She s classified in that imaginary shelf in my mind of ridiculously talented but inexplicably wasted authors sharing seats with the great Jane Seville and G.N Chevalier If they want to be remembered as THE author OF the BOOK they ll become a kind of Margaret Mitchell in the M M genre Maybe that s their purpose But not for my own good.I love this book very much because it wa [...]

    9. I know it s not fair to compare this book to Zero at the Bone, but, I can t help it It s sort of a similar storyline Where I think Zero was a bit ambitious, in the end I thought it bit off than it could chew Shades of Gray takes a smaller bite and is a bit graceful about it as a result. The book opens with Danny Butler sweating, and bleeding, it out while waiting alone in a police interrogation room A cop pulled him over for running a red light and bags him on a weapons charge, dragging him th [...]

    10. 4 StarsThere s not much to add to the multitude of reviews that have already sung the praises of this book By no means the easiest read, this really brought on the feels and the angst.Miller has lived his life by a set of rules It s made him good at what he does, and there s no room for exceptions, especially as a successful FBI agent who gets the job done taking down big bad drug dealers These rules have guided him on how to act, how to live, and how to be He s bottled up so tight, he hasn t al [...]

    11. This book is simply spectacular.I m notoriously hard to please when it comes to fictional romances I just don t buy them Friends come to me with couples they loved in books or movies, and they leave me stone cold You see, I was never really brought up to be a romantic type I was never one of those kids who at ten had decided what cake they wanted at their wedding At ten, I was really into gory anime and cheesy pasta I also had an emo phase that went on for longer than it should have view spoiler [...]

    12. Buddy read with my mates Gina and Tina.Wow, what an amazing book, I loved it I m not going to do a long review.lots of other people have quite rightly given this one 5 stars and a full review To my mind, all sorts of adjectives can be applied to the people in this book, and to the general mood created by the author.tense, gripping, compelling, breathtaking, violent, psychopathic, vicious, hot, sexy.I could go on but won t Danny, I liked right from the start, and yes, I know he was a criminal but [...]

    13. One of the best debut novels I have read Awesomamazing 5 plus star read I wish there were books out by this author I loved this book I loved both MCs I would love to read a story about secondary character Griff.

    14. So Many FeelzWHY THE HELL DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS At first glance, this seems to be a typical crime story FBI Agent blackmails a criminal into testifying against his boss, they fall in love, boss gets wind of the deal, both are on the run and were miraculously saved End of story.Nooo, not this time Obviously, Shades of Gray has a crime plot, but first and foremost it is a romance A beautifully written love story between two men on different sides of the law You feel the chemistry between [...]

    15. I tried to like this, I really did, but oh my God, the melodrama At a certain point I was imagining violins in the background and my inner reading voice relaying the story with a constant sobby infliction No, this story wasn t for me I wanted to say it started well enough, but it didn t actually No drama there, I ll give you that, but the whole premise of the story is based on one huge suspension of disbelief And I know, I know it s fiction logic has a lot of leeway here, but really I d like to [...]

    16. I ve read this twice now and could easily pick it up again The chemistry between Miller and Danny jumps off the page at you and literally smacks you in the face from the moment they meet Millers stoic cop and Dannys cocky nature make for an explosive Pairing.Danny s no goody goody but as the book progresses and you learn of his backstory you can t help but grow to love him and even though he s done some not so nice things in his life and witnessed many others, he s far from being a career crimi [...]

    17. 3.5 Stars After reading a few friends reviews I went into Shades of Gray with high expectations and it pains me to say that I wasn t as impressed as my friends, at least not in the first half of the book.Shades of Gray is a Romance about a FBI agent and a mid level drug runner.Getting straight to the point, my disappointment was related to the guys meshing quite well almost from the beginning The first interrogation was a joke, for a tough guy from the streets, Danny gave up too easy We had two [...]

    18. Written April 29, 20134.8 Brilliant Stars Absolutely wonderful I just loved everythingThis is a book that left me still panting with exertion when the last page was read It was full speed from the first page, so much desire, tenderness and fear to not be enough to be loved At times I was so scared and worried was there any possibility of eternal happiness and a life together for them A reading I greatly enjoyed Highly recommended Miller Sutton, an FBI agent, has come to the police detention to p [...]

    19. OMG OMG OMG What an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING book I have read some really good books, but this one is up there with the few that truly rock my world I am still left a little speechless and I am at a loss to describe how much this book moved me The rollercoaster of emotions, the suspense all blended together perfectly to take me a ride that made me forget everything but this story and these two great men Two men coming from very different backgrounds and experiences They are thrown together by circumst [...]

    20. 4.5 stars why have I waited so long to read this book So great Danny, a drug runner, just got arrested for a driving offense and the FBI used that opportunity to make him turn on his boss, a big drug dealer Miller, a FBI agent, is assigned to this case and has to babysit Danny, whose betrayal is rapidly discovered and is being hunted for that Trapped in a safe apartment for several weeks, Miller and Danny get to talk a lot, and not only about the case, but pretty soon about themselves while deal [...]

    21. Final rating 3 5 stars So we re in this together Danny s voice shook but he didn t look away.Miller smiled, his eyes calm and steady and sure Yeah, Danny Butler, we re in this together It was ok book Not bad plot but dragging in the middle, I even wanted to drop at one point around 50%, thank god I had patience enough to finish it because it ended up being worth it Despite having what i seek in books i didn t feel any connection with the characters and couldn t care less about them.I dislike tha [...]

    22. WHY did it take me so long to read this book I loved it I loved the freakin crap out of it Complex characters, interesting storyline, hotter than hot sex Miller and Danny were so amazing together This definitely belongs on my favorites shelf A must read

    23. Danny Butler is a criminal End of subject A means to an end The lieutenant to a drug lord, he is the key to bringing down the head honcho. And that is something Miller Sutton has as a fact in his black and white world He has been building the case against Roberto Hinestroza for years, and he will do whatever to takes to finish the case, put the man behind bars and move on to the next scumbag That is his life, his mission, and who he is.But when he has to protect Danny when he enters the Witness P [...]

    24. I loved this book I could not put it down and I have a feeling this is one I ll be thinking about for a while I only skimmed the blurb so I was expecting this book to be some kind of action thriller romance, but it is all angsty emotional romance.I really liked how most of the story centered around Danny and Miller together The love scenes were touching and powerful So much emotion shared between these two each time they were together It was beautiful every time They were not overly explicit and [...]

    25. Buddy read with my friends Gina and Bev I really loved the book A lot It s about Miller Sutton, a FBI agent who comes face to face with his doubts in his black and white world when he starts to interrogate Danny Butler, a drug runner Miller hopes to catch a much larger fish Roberto Hinestroza, a drug lord Miller is surprised to discover Danny is not the career criminal he expected At the same time Danny finds himself helplessly attracted to Miller They barely begin to explore the attraction betw [...]

    26. Reread March 2015.Review S okay Got to about chapter 5 and stopped I think it s my own personal issue I just finished the Cut Run series and was looking for something to sedate me until the next book comes out unfortunately I didn t find it here I might try this book again at a later date.

    27. Good and evil, right and wrong, innocent and guilty Stay in the right box and it would all work out in the end or would it So, is this book perfect No.Is it the best story ever No.Does it have flaws Hell, yes But what s most important I don t give a damn It made me laugh, cry, want to hug those two, and definitely slap some sense into them occasionally No way could I, after all that, go for less than five shining stars Unfortunately, I never seem to manage to write a decent review for the books [...]

    28. To get this straight right out there This is one of the most epic love stories I have read to date My heart is still brimming over with feels.I honestly admit I did not expect that although I SHOULD have after reading Simone s review who just read this ahead of me No doubt I blame the blurb for it G The talk of FBI agents, drug lords and men being on the run made me envisage an action driven plot where the romance was fitted in when possible. In fact, it was very much the other way round Yes, the [...]

    29. This wasn t a bad book overall There were two major issues though One, the major WTF moments that had me rolling my eyes instead of concentrating in the story and, two, the feeling that the two heroes were too immature.About the eye rolling moments I understand that sometimes you have to ignore certain things in order to enjoy a story I also understand that some elements may not be readily apparent or seem incoherent notwithstanding the saying that the difference between reality and fiction is t [...]
